Irish Expedition (Week 1)
Hello All,
I am happy to say that I have arrived safe and sound in beautiful Galway, Ireland! My trip so far has been a roller coaster, pretty crazy with a lot of ups, downs, turns, and twists! I started my trip with a bunch of flight delays, as I ended up changing my flight to fly directly into London from Denver. From London I had another delay as my plane to Ireland was running late due to the snow in Dublin. In Dublin I took a nice coach bus, where I found myself dropped off in the middle of Dublin, with no idea where to go, what to do and how to get there (my barnacles hostel). After frantically grazing the streets of the city, I ended up finding my way to the good ol’ barnacles hostel in Dublin.
Later that evening I went out for 2 pints of Guiness which ended up costing me 12 euros, about 17 US dollars! Here I realized how expensive everything is going to be and how I am going to need to conserve my money! The next morning I woke up for a free 3 hour tour of Dublin City, where I ended up meeting a bunch of people. This was real cool, and I ended up going out with them later that night for a “pub crawl.” The crawl included free drinks and a guided tour of the bars and clubs, which was much needed, being in my state.
After a crazy night in the city, I woke up the next morning to take a 3 hour coach bus to Galway, Ireland (where I will be studying). On the bus they had everything, from a nice toilet, to reclining chairs, and to free WiFi internet! The bus ride was a breeze and before I knew it I had arrived where I will be living for my study abroad semester. It was so cool to get out of the city and see “real” Ireland, as the country and colors really started to shine with the blue skies out!
After a 10 minute walk to the awesome ‘Eyre Sqaure’ before I knew it I stumbled upon the sister hostel of barncles Dublin to the barnacles quay house street in downtown Galway. At 1pm I had arrived and had been so exhausted I ended up sleeping the whole afternoon, catching up for the lost sleep throughout the past days. I was fortunate enough to have an empty hostel room all to myself, with a window overlooking the Quays Bar and the main street in downtown Galway! Later in the evening I went out in search of some food, where I found the nicest McDonalds I had ever been in! Just a few shops down the street sat the high end, luxury McDonalds where I had to stop and get myself a burger. After arriving back to my hostel, I am sitting here hoping, praying that no one moves into the room so I can get a worry free, single sleep in this 4 empty bed hostel!
Getting up Tomorrow morning to move into my appartment with 4 chicks!
STOKEDDD
Thanks Everyone for the Support, Love you all,
BEAR
Hi Bear, Sorry we weren’t there with you in DUB to do the “pub crawl”. Sounds like a great way to be welcomed to Ireland. Too bad you didn’t include your snow board as a means of transportation in Galway. How much snow did you get? Hear that you are having extremely cold/snowy weather, but the “Durango Kid” must be lovin’
it. Send us some blog pictures when you have a chance. Love ya!!!
